Module 3: Prototyping

Learning Objectives

Module 3 has the following goals and objectives:

  • List steps for planning and running a data gathering interview.
  • Cite important practices for questionnaire design
  • Discuss the difference between qualitative and quantitative data and analysis.
  • Analyze and report data gathered from a questionnaire.
  • Explain strategies for analyzing data from an interview or observation.
  • Evaluate and design authentication interfaces.
  • Identify different kinds of requirements from a simple description.
  • Describe prototyping and different types of prototyping activities.
  • Explain the use of scenarios and prototypes in design.
  • Produce simple prototypes from the models developed during the requirements activity.
  • Critically reflect on the experience of rapidly producing a prototype

Assignments

The total amount of time estimated you should spend on these assignments depends on the amount of effort required, itself based on your previous experience with statistics, generally, and R, in particular. You can expect to spend somewhere between 145 and 285 minutes on this module beyond the readings. The estimated total number of words you’re likely to write in this module is 1,625.

Project 3

Project 3 is an introduction to the application of scenarios, personas, and lo-fidelity prototyping.

Learning Objectives

Through the application of reading materials and completion of this project in light of its corresponding rubric:

  • Students will be introduced to Lo-Fidelity Prototyping and come to understand their usefulness in interaction design
    • Describe prototyping and different types of prototyping activities
    • Demonstrate the process of creating a lo-fidelity prototype to meet all aspects of a given scenario

Tasks

UXA 3

The User Experience Analysis (UXA) is designed to be an optional, freeform way for you to express how you are taking the concepts learned in the class and applying them to a real-world situation. The idea is to explore how HCI is just as much an art as it is a science.
